With the new WBBL season, the Hobart Hurricanes have seen a change in their fortunes: two wins to start their season, giving them two opportunities to sing their valedictory song. People can reasonably differ as to the song’s quality. Personally, I think it’s pretty good. You’ll certainly hear a lot worse in sport. But I did wonder, if I was trying to convey a little more of the Hurricanes history in song, how would I go about it? Well, here’s my attempt. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, “Praise Cricket Tasmania”, my to the tune of the Australian national anthem.
Praise Cricket Tasmania:
Beneath our radiant southern Clive,
We’ll toil with Heather and Hales;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for Coyle,
Our home has Birt on 3;
For those who’ve come across the seas,
We’ve two spots to spare;
In Brett’s page, let every sage
Praise Cricket Tasmania!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
“Praise Cricket Tasmania!”
