Seven further Pakistan players test positive for Covid-19

The Seven Cases

Three Pakistan cricketers test positive for coronavirus. The Pakistan Cricket Board have announced a further seven players and one backroom member of staff. In addition, seven more, Pakistan players test positive for coronavirus.

The original trio consisting of Haider Ali, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan had all returned positive tests and were now self-isolating. Now they could be joined by a further seven members of the selected playing squad. This includes Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan and Wahab Riaz. Along with the players, a further positive test has come from team masseur Malang Ali.

All eleven positive tested individuals will now self-isolate for a period and look set not to travel this coming Sunday as planned.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is still expected to continue touring. Those with negative tests will continue flying to the UK and self-isolate. Mohammed Hafeez has retested and returned negative. Other players will have to do the same.

What’s At Stake?

In recent days new Pakistan coach Misbah-Ul-Haq had been talking about the squads’ excitement to be playing cricket again. Last time out in test matches, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka 1-0 in a two-match series held in Karachi. They will be hopeful of moving up the newly formed ICC Test Championship Table. Hosts England currently sits one place above their visitors. Lastly, the winners of the upcoming three-match series can expect to move clear of the other.

3 cases previously and now 7 further Pakistan players test positive for coronavirus. As a result, the difficulty of hosting the tour has increased. It remains to be seen if this tour will take place in the future.
