Gautam Gambhir Says “Ben Stokes Best In The World”
Former Indian opening batsman, Gautam Gambhir, on Sunday revealed who he thought was the best all-rounder in the world. Speaking to Star Sports’ during their weekly show Cricket Connected, Gautam Gambhir showered praises upon English all-rounder Ben Stokes. He called him a ‘high impact cricketer’ and a ‘dream player for any captain’.
The England vice-captain has had a stellar return to cricket. Ben Stokes scored a mammoth 176 against the West Indies at Old Trafford during the second Test. Add to that the nine batsmen that he has sent packing, and it makes Stokes a lethal asset for any side to possess.
There isn’t anyone close to Stokes in world cricket at the moment: Gautam Gambhir
“You can’t compare anyone in India at the moment with Ben Stokes. Absolutely not, because Ben Stokes is in his own league.
What he has done in Test cricket, what he has done in one-day cricket, what he has done in T20 cricket, I don’t think so there’s anyone, let alone in India, there isn’t anyone who’s even close to him in world cricket at the moment” said the former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper.
West Indies in a spot of bother
While Stokes has most definitely proven himself to be a matchwinner during the course of the series, his teammate and good friend, Stuart Broad has been the one who has taken the Englishmen to a winning position in this Test.
Taking complete advantage of the conducive wicket and overhead conditions, the pacer from Nottingham struck fear in the hearts of the Windies batsmen, claiming six scalps in the first innings itself. He looks well on his way for another five-for in the second innings and is sitting at two wickets at the time of publishing.
For the West Indies, things look grim. Calling their chase of 399 an uphill task would be an understatement. The English pacers after their slow start at Southampton during the first Test, have bowled relentlessly, and there is no reason they won’t continue to do so. If the West Indies manage to get a result in their favour, it will be nothing short of a miracle
